Q&A with Gosia King
This month, we sit down with Gosia King, Founder & Creative Director of Kings Interiors. With a wealth of experience in high-end residential design, her studio is renowned for crafting interiors that balance classic elegance with contemporary sensibility. From a single-room refresh to a complete home transformation, every project is approached with thoughtful detail, refined craftsmanship, and an unwavering commitment to comfort, style, and considered living.
Can you share with us a little about your journey, how did Kings Interiors come to life, and what inspired you to establish your own studio?
GK: Kings Interiors grew from a lifelong passion for creating spaces that feel both refined and deeply lived-in. I had spent years working within the design industry, gaining experience across various disciplines, but I always felt a pull toward building something more personal, something that reflected my own design ethos and values. Establishing my own studio allowed me to focus on craftsmanship, detail, and the emotional quality of a space. I wanted to create interiors that were not just visually beautiful, but genuinely meaningful to the people who inhabit them.
Your design philosophy blends timeless elegance with modern sophistication; how do you strike that balance in your projects?
GK: For me, it’s about grounding a space in classic principles, proportion, harmony, and quality, while introducing layers of modernity through materials, textures, and clean lines. The balance comes from knowing when to be restrained and when to be bold. I love combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary silhouettes or pairing natural materials with refined finishes. The result is a look that feels enduring yet fresh, familiar yet unexpected.
What does luxury mean to you in the context of interior design, and how do you ensure it feels personal and comfortable for your clients?
GK: Luxury is the feeling of ease. It’s comfort, quality, and thoughtful detail. True luxury isn’t about excess; it’s about surrounding yourself with materials and objects that enhance your everyday life. To make it personal, I take time to understand how each client lives, their routines, preferences, and aesthetic sensibilities. I then tailor the design, so the home not only looks refined but supports their lifestyle in an intuitive, effortless way.
You’re known for your attention to craftsmanship and detail. How important are your partnerships with artisans and suppliers in bringing your designs to life?
GK: These partnerships are essential, they’re at the heart of what we do. Working with skilled artisans and trusted suppliers allows me to bring nuance, quality, and authenticity to every project. Whether it’s bespoke joinery, handcrafted metalwork, or beautifully woven textiles, these collaborators bring a level of expertise that elevates the entire design. I value these relationships enormously; they enable us to turn vision into reality with exceptional precision and artistry.
What is the first step you take when beginning a new project, and how do you translate a client’s vision into a cohesive design narrative?
GK: The first step is always conversation, listening to the client’s aspirations, inspirations, and the emotional tone they want their home to carry. From there, I start to build a narrative: a clear visual and material direction that reflects their personality. This narrative becomes the thread that ties every decision together. It ensures consistency and coherence, whether we’re selecting fabrics, designing custom furniture, or developing the spatial flow. It’s a collaborative process rooted in understanding.
You have incorporated Chase Erwin fabrics into many of your projects, are there are fabrics that you return to time and time again?
GK: Yes, absolutely. Chase Erwin fabrics have an elegance and tactility that I find endlessly inspiring. I’m particularly drawn to the soft linens, textural weaves, and understated neutrals, they add such depth and warmth to a scheme without ever overwhelming it. These fabrics layer beautifully and bring a quiet luxury that aligns perfectly with my design ethos. I often return to Vogue, which I love for its refined softness, and Coco, a favourite that always reminds me of Coco Chanel’s timeless, tailored style. They’re pieces I reach for again and again because they feel timeless, versatile, and exquisitely made.
In your view, what design trends or materials are you most drawn to right now, and how do you see them evolving in the years ahead?
GK: I’m drawn to natural, honest materials, stone with movement, warm wood tones, textured fabrics, handcrafted ceramics. There’s a growing appreciation for interiors that feel organic and grounded, which I believe will only strengthen in the coming years. I also see a shift toward sustainability and longevity, with clients increasingly valuing pieces that are made responsibly and built to last. The future of design, to me, lies in thoughtful simplicity, beautifully made objects, and materials that age gracefully.
Finally, what advice would you give to clients looking to create a home that feels timeless, refined, and uniquely their own?
GK: Start with what you truly love. Don’t design around trends or what you think you should like. Focus on quality pieces, natural materials, and a palette that brings you calm. Allow your home to evolve slowly, it’s a journey, not a rush. When you choose with intention and trust your instincts, you create a space that feels authentic, enduring, and deeply personal. That’s the essence of timelessness.
